Field Notes
Description:
This butterfly was flying in a field with many wildflowers, and native plants including some of it's host plant, fogfruit (Phyla sp.). This butterfly can be easily distinguished from it's more common relative the Pearl crescent, by the more black on the inside of the wings, and a distinct white patch on the inner forewings. Another name for this is the Mat plant crescent, and in the Cayman islands it is known as the Crescent spot.
