Field Notes

Description:

Yellow tapered body with silver stripes along entire length. Stripes below lateral line are diagonally oriented. All fins are solid yellow in color. Centrally cleft (forked) caudal fin. Juvenile form exhibits white body with thick black stripes, thin yellow stripes, black blotch at base of caudal peduncle, and yellow edge to dorsal, ventral, anal, and caudal fins. Yellow stripes below lateral line are diagonally oriented. Juvenile form is similar in appearance to Haemulon melanurum and Haemulon aurolineatum.

Habitat:

Shallow water inside reef.
