Oh. Thanks to you both. Yeah, I didn't really mean blackbird but just a black bird, if you follow. I do know how to ID the "blackbirds" I've seen though. Hmm.. A raven. Thanks. Most people call them crows in Australia, regardless of what they are, but someone once told me that the blue-eyed ones are usually ravens, and I'm yet to see one without them here in Sydney.
I'm so glad you looked at this, Liam! I did actually try to find an ID but I became SO uncertain when I looked at the distribution map for crows and ravens. If you had asked me about black birds when I lived in Sydney (pre-Project Noah days) I would have told you that they were all crows... I had no idea that we even had ravens there!
Similar to the Little Raven and best distinguished by voice. However, Australian Raven is much more common in Sydney. As far as I'm aware, no Crows in Australia are found in Sydney. The only blackbirds you have are the Common Blackbirds, which are not true blackbirds (Icteridae), but thrushes (Turdidae). Common Blackbirds have orange bills, legs, and eyerings. Females are brown.
Hi Jaikob, I have a lot of trouble with them too and I'm not confident enough to suggest an ID on this one. However, I can point you towards a great bird ID site: http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/finder. It may not help with this particular spotting but it's an awesome resource to bookmark!
