Field Notes

Description:

Saw this sitting on a leaf in a secondary rainforest. Maybe 5 cm long. Did not move. It was in a clearing in a sunny area. A cricket (no, not the game!). It's also known as the two spotted cricket and is used as a food source for spiders and reptiles. As you can see its hind legs are very long to help it jump further. I think that the hairs on its hind legs are for sensing its surroundings, perhaps ears?
