Field Notes

Description:

Small heron that is a year round resident.
Dark greenish back, dark chestnut body with two light colored stripes down chest. Dark crown and yellow eyes. Bill is dagger like to be able to pierce fish.

Habitat:

Usually found near water. This was found at a small lake.

Species ID Suggestions

Remembers me of my encounter in Costa Rica. But that one was probably Butorides striatus.
