Description:

Family: Asilidae, Subfamily: Ommatiinae. Average body length around .40 - .50 inches (1-1.5 cm). Large eyes, Long large abdomen, black and orange legs. These insects have aggressive predatory feeding habits. Feeds mostly on other insects (hopefully stink bugs). Summer 2012

Habitat:

Meadow on my property.

Hi Carol! Wonderful robber fly! I remember this from the Facebook Insect ID Group, and the date you found it at was July 13, 2012. Eric suggested it was most likely a member of the Ommatius genus.
