Field Notes

Description:

Large owl with long ear tufts. Mottled brown/gray and fine barring in chest. Deep hooting sound. These large owls are great predators and can take down an animal slightly larger then itself.

Habitat:

Spotted this in a Eucalyptus tree in a camp ground.

Notes:

While looking for something else I heard the hooting. Then what pointed me in the right direction was many Anna's Hummingbirds harassing it. Red-tail hawks and these Great horned Owls are about the only predator to skunks.
