Field Notes

Description:

This little guy is about ⅜ inch long with its antenna as long as its body. He was difficult to see at first, blending in with the surrounding green foliage. The antenna has a beautiful black and white strip markings. Bugguide.net is unable to make a positive I.D. other than it’s a young katydid nymph, genus Scudderia, no species I.D.

Habitat:

This one was found on an English Marigold in my flower garden on a hot June day in the far northern California valley.

Notes:

One site says it’s a young green legged grasshopper and another says it’s a nymph of an unidentified katydid.
