This male Red-bellied Woodpecker was poking around in the place a large branch broke off an oak tree.

Olivia, there's already a Red-headed Woodpecker that really does have a nice red hood. These birds do have a patch on their belly (not in view on this picture) that's more pink than red, so I guess that's why this name was chosen as the common name.
What a confusing common name. The hood is actually red... not the belly?
