Field Notes

Description:

mystery animal spotted in my neighbor's backyard in 2010.

Habitat:

wooded area / protected salt marsh located near a residential neighborhood.

Notes:

apologies for the poor quality, the picture was taken with an older cellphone. everyone in the neighborhood has been trying to figure out what it might have been since it was spotted in 2010. we have both foxes and coyotes in the neighborhood, but I don't think they can interbreed. it apparently looked like a very tall very skinny red fox.

I agree. This is a Red Fox with sarcoptic mange. Poor thing.
maybe the lack of fur made it simply appear taller and slimmer...
