Field Notes

Description:

Striking white tern with black on the head. The beak is black with a yellow tip. Black legs. Family Sternidae.

Habitat:

On the rocks along the kilometer long pier, Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.

Notes:

Like all Thalasseus terns, the Sandwich Tern feeds by plunge diving for fish, usually in marine environments, and the offering of fish by the male to the female is part of the courtship display.
