Field Notes

Description:

Like a wild pansy maybe? The showy flowers are velvety, pale violet and have deep purple blotches on the lower petals with yellow inside.

Habitat:

One plant with quite a few flowers on an abandoned patch of land where sooner or later there will be a house. Residential colony. Urban.

Notes:

The name "Wishbone Flower" comes from the way the anthers arch and join at the tip when the flowers first open. Visiting bees break the wishbone while pollinating.( https://www.thespruce.com/growing-wishbone-flower-torenia-1402918)
