Description:

This perennial rush is 2 - 3' tall and unbranched, except near the apex where the inflorescence occurs. The stout central stem is green, glabrous, and terete. There are 2 - 5 alternate leaves along each stem. The blades of these leaves are up to 12" long and nearly 1/4 " across; they are green, glabrous, terete, and stiff. There are usually 3 - 20 flowerheads per panicle.

Habitat:

Wet prairies, prairie swales, sloughs, borders of ponds and streams, and roadside ditches.
