Description:

Tall,green bush with whorled leaves. Thin leaves that grow upwards. New growth on top

Habitat:

Easy west canyon. Coastal patchy environment. Located at the base of the canyon, along the trail

The plant you spotted is not a species of Tamarix: I'm not sure what it is, but I know with certainty that it is not salt cedar.

This stuff is a nasty invasive species. It stores salt (so much that if you rub the leaves between your fingers, then lick them, it'll taste like you dipped your fingers in salt!), then drops salty leaves so that native plants can't grow in the soil. It also drinks a ton of water - not good for our arid habitat!
