Bald Eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
46.3081, -95.7152
Field Notes
Description:
An adult Bald Eagle eating on the snow-packed ground out in a farm field
Habitat:
Nesting in tall trees high above the ground, I often see them perched on branches near the road or flying over farm fields looking for their next meal. This year there are four mated pairs of Bald Eagles I'm following however one pair hasn't been seen for about a week now so I fear for their well being. Their nest was located on a quiet dirt road between two sloughs that normally attract numerous waterfowl and five female Ring-necked Pheasants have been seen on and along this road so...someone may not have wanted them there...
Notes:
This may be the same pair of Bald Eagles I've been seeing in and around town for the past three or four years now, all year long. In winter I've seen them out on the frozen lake near or over the numerous ice houses, perhaps looking for scraps?
