Description:

This is a long, thin, duck-like bird with a long pointed bill, dark green head, black back and white sides, chest and neck, it is about 27",

Habitat:

Mergansers are shallow water divers that feed on small fish and aquatic insects. Spotted a large group of about 50 Common Merganser at Pine Lake, Tamarac NWR while on their migration to southern states, Central America, Mexico.

Notes:

Common Mergansers can be found in Northeastern Minnesota during the spring, summer and fall.
