Description:

A Myrmecophyte (ant-plant) but most accurately this is an ant-house plant. The southern form is virtually spineless while the northern form is very spiny except in old age.

Habitat:

Melaleuca swamps often alongside and sometimes on mangroves. The first plant (spineless southern form) was photographed in the Hinchinbrook Channel swamps, North Queensland, Australia.
The second plant (northern spiny form) was in Cairns Botanical Gardens, North Queensland, Australia.
