Dwarf cinquefoil

Potentilla canadensis

Thank you so much for the identification and the explanation! I really appreciate it.
The five leaflets per leaf identify this as a cinquefoil rather than a strawberry, which has three leaflets per leaf. The fact that the teeth on the margin of the leaflets extend only about halfway down each leaflet is indicative of dwarf cinquefoil. Common cinquefoil (P. simplex) looks similar, but the leaflets are more elongate and the teeth go almost all the way to the base of each leaflet.
