Field Notes

Description:

Family: Syrphidae. Also known as a European Hoverfly. 10-12 mm long (.40 - .50 inches) Large wingspan at 15 mm (.60 inches). Bee mimic. Eyes look like black marbles. Males have hovering abilities. Adults feed on flower especially of the carrot family (Queen's Anne Lace in photo) and fennel.

Habitat:

Meadow with abundant weeds and wild flowers.

That's a great shot! I must admit that I also suffer from taking pics and not taking notes. And, that has gotten worse for me as I get older. By the way, I love your photography.
