Field Notes

Description:

This is a nymph katydid, older than the other Bush Katydid I posted but still not mature enough to make a 100% positive species I.D. This little one is about 20-25 mm long. A full grown adult can reach 40 mm in length.

Habitat:

Weedy fields, thickets, forest edges, and meadows. This one was found in my flower garden on a very hot summer day in the far northern California Valley.

Well your cam is better than mine then.. plenty good enough to ID and learn most stuff. :)
Thanks Mark, I didn't notice the banding on the antennas until I down loaded the photos to view them. I'm still not sure how I didn't get this older one more in focus, lol...At this point the only camera I have is small Panasonic Lumix pocket camera but at least it has Leica lenses with a zoom. Not bad for a pocket camera. Soon I will have something a little better.
Good find. Antennal banding seems to be consistent.
