Field Notes

Description:

Tramea is a dragonfly genus in the family of skimmer and percher dragonflies (Libellulidae). They typically have colored bases to their otherwise translucent hindwings. In particular when they fly, this creates the impression of them carrying bags at the start of their abdomen; hence they are commonly known as saddlebags gliders. (Wiki)

Habitat:

Several flying around together about 250m away from the water in the long trough but this is closer to the prison boab tree.

Thank you Neil! Glad you like it :) Oh, happy new year!
Cheers Mark :) Done!
Happy new year to you to A I think you should put 'Tramea sp." into the scientific name.
And really.....Happy New Year everyone!!!
Happy New Year Mark, Sukanya, and Leanne! Thank you for your suggestions. I will try and narrow it down so I can put up a common name...could just write "some sort of glider", Tramea sp :D Thank you for the info on mites Sukanya. That is so interesting...will have to read more :D
I agree with Mark. Genus is Tramea, maybe loewii also.
Those are mites as I have learned on PN.. See: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/965006006 and the conversation that followed.
Excellent. I wonder what those 'eggs' are stuck to the thorax. Genus is Tramea and species is possibly stenoloba. http://bie.ala.org.au/species/TRAMEA+STENOLOBA
