Description:

Growing to about 20cm the Lesser Sand Plover is also known as the Mongolian Dotterel. It is a visitor from Central Asia outside breeding season. Brown mottled colouring on back, wings, tail and head, with some chestnut, white underneath, colours deepen and become brighter during breeding season. Runs fast along the sand, probes the sand for food.

Habitat:

Found around Australia's coastline except areas along Great Australian Bight and very far north of WA. This one on open beach in north east NSW.
