Field Notes

Description:

Moth in the Noctuidae family. Forewing grayish brown with very little reddish tinting. Lines and spots usually distinct, usually accepted with vague blackish markings, such as top of st. line and filling in bottom half of reniform spot. Hindwing grayish brown. Wingspan is 3.2-4.2 cm.

Habitat:

It is found in most of North America, except in desert regions. The habitat consists of moist forests, riparian, agricultural and urban areas.

This one was attracted to a porch light at the edge of a deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.

Notes:

Host plants include plants apple, crabapple, cherries, plums, and other trees.
