Field Notes

Description:

I almost missed this guy when I was at the Port Aransas National Wildlife Refuge on our recent winter birding trip. This sucker was one of the biggest I have ever seen in Texas. The American Alligator is one tough costumer with its formidable teeth and locking jaws. The Alligator is king when it comes to marsh and swamp politics in the natural world. This guy was about eight to twelve foot by rough estimate.

Habitat:

Marshes, Salt Marshes, Swamps, and Rivers.
