Black Nightshade

Solanum nigrum Linn. (Solanaceae), locally called Lubi-lubi, is a common herb or short-lived perennial shrub or subshrub. It grows to 30-120 cm tall; leaves ovate to oblong, 5-8 cm long, pointed at both ends; flowers have petals greenish to whitish, recurved when aged and surround prominent bright yellow anthers; fruit berry is dark purple or black, smooth, shining, rounded, about 5 mm in diameter; seeds are yellow and minutely pitted.

Called Black Nightshade or Garden Nightshade, it is native to Eurasia and introduced in the Americas, Australasia, and South Africa. It is found troughout the Philippines in open, waste places, recently disturbed soil; from sea level to a height of 2000 meters. Plant parts are used in traditional medicine, although some parts can be toxic to livestock and humans, and it is considered a weed.
