Field Notes

Description:

Nocturnal spider with katydid victim. Large 1.25 inches long (30 mm) Female. Bulbous abdomen (tan) with brown intricate design. Reddish/brown legs.

Habitat:

Front porch near meadow and woodlands. I counted approximately 80 Furrow Orb Weaver Spiders hanging all over the house one night.

Notes:

The katydid was struggling to be released.

Thanks Glen Marks. It was a little gruesome to watch as the katydid was struggling, but this wasn't as bad as last year when a Shamrock Orb Weaver Spider wrapped a Monarch butterfly (too late).
