Description:

Orb weaving spider, body length approx 1cm and leg span approx 3cms.

Habitat:

Forest at Te Mata Lodge, New Zealand.

Thank you for the ID ForestDragon. No I didn't take a pic of the other side of the spider on this occasion. Couldn't get to the other side of the web without disturbing it. Thick bush on the other side. It does pretty good for this species. Thanks again!

Nice shot, Andrea! This is certainly the correct Genus, Leucauge. Do you have any other views of this spider? I think that this may be Leucage granulata (Silver Orb Spider). I don't think Leucauge venusta occurs in your area but they are very close in appearance. Here is one link I found.
