Description:

Shot this on a trail into virgin tropical rainforest. Could not resist as it was unusually coloured - almost alien-like. An unidentified species of flightless tiger beetle (family Cicindelildae) which mimics a large ant. Not sure of the species.

Thanks, guys! It is a Tricondyla - from the photos I see. Will be searching for more info on it.
This might be a Flightless Tiger Beetle from Genus Tricondyla. It looks very similar to this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nickadel/7999675312/
Cool find! I agree with the alien-like appearance, haha! I think this is a species of Beetle. Perhaps an Ant mimic.
Beetle. This looks like an ant-mimic Tiger Beetle. Please consider adding this awesome spotting to the Beetles! mission. http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/11500889
