Field Notes

Description:

The yellow rat snake in the wild can be somewhat challenging because they vary in color. This is due to age, location and various other climate issues. It is basically yellow w/ several black stripes.

Habitat:

This species was spotted on the south edge of a large lake in the swampy area. It was in a snag and just happen to poke its head through a split in that snag as I was walking by on the boardwalk that winds through and above the wetlands.
