plume moth
Pseudoxyptilus secutor
-23.5324, 27.0972
Field Notes
Description:
about 13mm wingspan; small pale moth with blotchy brown markings on wings and abdomen and a wash of grey-green about the middle . Note the candy stripe pattern on the hind legs.
Habitat:
weedy patches in bush, often under trees where the herbaceous vegetation is more lush as the sun shrivels up everything not in the shade.
Notes:
these moths were quite numerous but they only became noticeable when one walked through the vegetation and disturbed them or if one had ones nose on the ground looking at a ladybird!
Apparently this is a monospecific genus and the distribution is restricted to southern Africa
