Field Notes

Description:

They have a dark, streaked back and tail that allow them to blend in with the brush quite well. They have a long neck and the head has a crest at the top. We saw dozens of roadrunners, but this was the only one that stayed still for me to take pictures!

Habitat:

They are found in south-central and the southwestern US and Mexico in brushy habitat. The ones we saw were all in the brushy area next to the road, and would run into the thicker brush when we drove past them.
