Field Notes

Description:

Very large Silk Moth from Peruvian Cloud Forest found in Manu Park on the Road to Manu ( from Cusco)

Habitat:

Peruvian Cloud Forest.

Notes:

This moth flew into our cabin in Manu Park in the Peruvian Cloud forest located about 1/2 down the Manu Road from the Andes to Pervian Amazon. I thought it was a large bat. It's been a long time, but I believe the slats were 1 inch slats, and the wingspan of this specimen was well over a foot, so this was an extremely large specimen of this family of moths.
