Wonderful picture ceherzog! One can really see the pinktoes and wonders about the rest of the body....Great! =)
I've managed to get it there manually. If you zoom in you'll see it's now right at the lodge, at the lake. You might be able to refine the location to where you found the spider.
Well, you have to hike a bit from the boat dock and then travel by dugout canoe over a lake to reach the actual lodge. I tried just putting in the coordinates but PN is not accepting that.
I think this one here is correct: http://wikimapia.org/11700278/Sacha-Lodge
Claire, if you have a look at the Sacha lodge website, on their map they put the lodge right on the Rio Napo, east of Coca. http://www.sachalodge.com/english/map.php
That's certainly the right area now, but it seems far from the water... The Sacha lodge is accessed by boat right, or did you go inland much?
Daniele...does this look right to you as to location? This is where Google Earth took me for Sacha Lodge.
I think that what happened is that there are several places named Coca in Ecuador, and the mapping system picked up the wrong one.
Danielle...I just put in Coca Ecuador...the nearest town I know of & it places it there...I wonder about that...will see if I can get it right. Will check the mission...thanks
Fantastic Claire! Did you know that Karen has created a mission for the arachnids of Ecuador? http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/16885008 Just wondering: do you have right map location? The maps point to the southern highlands and the Sacha lodge is in the Oriente if I remember well (I was nearby 10 years ago).
yes it is ceherzog Avicularia avicularia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinktoe_tarantula
Anna, is that a real tarantula name?
Thanks all..it is a bit creepy...one dropped out of the trees onto someone's umbrella at the lodge.
Wow that is a very creepy and very cool photo!!
