Field Notes

Description:

Orange to tan with dark bands along the veins of the wings. Underside has large silver spots.
Much larger than the Variegated fritillary.

Habitat:

Spotted nectaring on coneflowers, milkweed, and butterfly bush in my flower bed.

Notes:

The caterpillar host is violets, which is present in my yard.
