Field Notes

Description:

Caterpillar mimicking a bird dropping.

Habitat:

My potted garden in an azotea of our residence in Bulusan, Sorsogon, Philippines.

Notes:

Unusual kind of mimicry. The caterpillar odd choice of a subject to mimic-- a bird dropping is a very smart strategy. It remained undisturbed feasting on the leaves of my citrus seedling because no one will dare touch a bird dropping.
