Field Notes

Description:

Shrub/vine to 1m high and 1m spread. Very prickly, recurved spines, red turning black 'berries'.

Habitat:

2 bushes growing beside stream in Coromandel Town, New Zealand

Notes:

What distinguishes blackberries from its raspberry relatives is whether the torus (receptacle) picks with the fruit, a blackberry, or remains on the plant when picked leaving a hole in the fruit, a raspberry
