Field Notes

Habitat:

This Horned Treehopper was spotted in our vegetable plot, on String Bean (Vigna unguiculata)known, in the Philippines, as Sitaw. It might be relevant to mention that the vegetable plot was planted in a rice field, between rice-growing seasons. Plant information from http://www.stuartxchange.org/Sitaw.....

Notes:

Leptocentrus taurus is a common bug in this part of the Philippines and I have photographed it many times. So I was astonished when I looked at the distribution map in gbif.org (where observations are indicated by yellow dots) and saw that it is present in many countries throughout Asia and Southeast Asia, but not a single yellow dot on the Philippines. However, when I read the paragraph immediately under the map, It stated "This insect is widely distributed in India, Ceylon, Borneo, Timor, and the Philippines."
