Field Notes

Description:

Sora is a small marsh rail. Though known to be elusive, it's not so shy of humans as they are with predators such as the Northern Harrier and other raptors. Plump body, mostly brown on back with white barring on flanks. Gray on chest to face. Black shadow mask over the eyes and yellow bill.

Habitat:

Mostly found in marshes and wetlands. This one in submerged grasses.

Notes:

These here can be found either in low or high, but high is where they are found stranded the most. They will be rushing to find any kind of shelter or stand very still. The one in the middle shot stayed like that for almost 20 mins or more. This late King tide we found over 5 along with two Ridgeway's and one Virginia Rail.
