Field Notes

Description:

Group of Saucrobotys futilalis larvae feeding on Clasping Dogbane (Apocynum sibiricum).

Habitat:

An old field with clasping dogbane (Apocynum sibiricum) one of the larval hosts for this moth species.

Notes:

The caterpillars feed in groups eating the surface of the leaves. I noticed that they also close leaves together with silk to make a shelter.
