Description:
A low growing evergreen shrub with paddle-like leathery leaves. Found along the coast and native to South Texas, Florida, and Mexico. Goes by several different common names like Mangle Dulce, Mayten, Florida Mayten, Gutta-percha Mayten, Leatherleaf and by other names.
Habitat:
Spotted in a large open meadow at the Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park.
