Description:
Medium sized bird, about 30 cm in length with short wings. Distinctively shrike-like appearance and stance, with a long tail. Mainly rufous brown upperparts, and cream-coloured and striped bellow. It sports brown mask with yellow eye-ring, and yellow bill.
Habitat:
This shrike is a resident in tropical Africa, south of the Sahara and north of the equator, except in Horn of Africa. Usually it is a gregarious and cooperative breeder, and often seen in groups in savanna and dry grasslands. Here, observed in residential urban gardens in central Abuja, not far away from wooded areas of Jabi lake.
