Elegant Rainbow Skink (Female)
Carlia decora
-21.2727, 149.178
Field Notes
Description:
Named "decora' for the bright color pattern on the male which has a bright orange stripe down his side and very pale blue under his chin. The female (shown here) is mostly brown with darker flecks, with a white stripe running down her side. The lower eyelid is movable. Around 10cm in length with 4 fingers and 5 toes.
Habitat:
Though these are a common skink in the Townsville and Mackay region of Queensland, they were only named and recognised in recent years. They frequent open forests and rainforest margins along the coastline, living amongst the leaf litter. I'll definately be returning to try and find a male!
