Field Notes

Description:

The Lynx Spider shown here is very common in the part of Philippines where I live. However, I have not been able to identify it to species level. I often see pictures which seem to look like the photos in this spotting and they are usually called Oxyopes salticus. The problem is that O. salticus is not listed present in Philippines. According to Wiki, O. salticus is distributed in the Americas and Hawaii. So, I always end up with Oxyopes sp.

Habitat:

I spotted this Lynx Spider this morning at around 9:00 am in our backyard. It was perched on a blade of grass which was growing in the middle of a small patch of Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas) locally called Kamote. Plant identification - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Kamote.html
