Field Notes
Description:
A lizard found at night about shoulder height on a bush. It was definitely not asleep yet and jumped away before I could get a dorsal picture with the tail. It was about 10 cm long with a very long tail. The feet have long fingers and claws. The mouth is marked with a pattern imitating teeth.
Habitat:
Finca Argovia, Ruta de Café, about 850 meters, 2 hours NE of Tapachula, near Nueva Alemania, Chiapas.
Notes:
A forest lizard found in Latin America, it has the amazing ability to run on the surface of water due to their long hind toes which are webbed and their great velocity. Adults have 3 crests; on the head, dorsal back and tail. They mainly feed on insects and sometimes fruit. This one is still a juvenile.
