Minnow fry
35.251, -106.592
Field Notes
Description:
These appeared to be juvenile fish (I am guessing minnows). They were about an inch long, maybe less, and very narrow. They had large eyes.
Habitat:
These fish were in a flooded portion of the Rio Grande Bosque in a shady, still part of the water under trees. They were staying at the surface of the water and by the edge.
Notes:
I cannot find any information to distinguish between the fry of the various fish in the Middle Rio Grande. They could be bullhead minnows, Rio Grande silvery minnows, or something else.
The minnows are spawning because of the spring runoff swelling the river.
