Field Notes

Description:

Plant is a dense, ground-hugging rosette with the rosette expanding throughout winter as leaves grow and more leaves are added. Basal leaves are deep green with white color along veins. Basal leaves are compound (pinnate) with mostly five leaflets. Leaf margins of the entire plant are finely serrate and smooth.

Habitat:

Plant growing on south-facing slope in open deciduous woods.

Notes:

Leaf appearance of White Avens is variable.
