Field Notes

Description:

I found this spider when I was about to use an overturned flowerpot that had been sitting outside. I decided to let the spider just keep her flowerpot and I found another one to use. Is it a black widow? I haven't seen ones with spots on the back before. There's a glare from the light, but it was just shiny black with red spots and a stripe.

Edit: I later got some photos when she turned around and showed me the hourglass shape on her underside, so now I know it's a black widow.
