Description:

One of my favourite Australian parrot species, the galah is instantly recognised as an iconic Australian native. It belongs to the cockatoo family Cacatuidae, and is the only species within the Eolophus genus. It is found throughout the country, and is one of the most common of the cockatoo species. With its distinctive pink and grey plumage and its bold and loud behaviour, it is a familiar sight in the wild and increasingly in urban areas. Sexes are similar, however, adult birds differ in the colour of the irises. I only spotted two galahs at this location, but they are known to congregate into massive flocks, and as they feed on the seeds of grasses and cultivated crops, they are considered pests in some rural areas.

Habitat:

Spotted in native eucalypts along the shore of freshwater Lake Broadwater, which forms part of Lake Broadwater Conservation Park.... https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/lake-broadwater/about/culture This is a very flat area in a region known as the Darling Downs. NB: Just a little over 12 months ago and this lake was completely dry due to the massive drought that Australia experienced. It's wonderful to see how the lake and bushland has recovered. Birdlife was abundant, and surrounding bushland vegetation was green and lush.

These are beautiful birds. Check this video out, Sukanya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUVEiBbv30I Galahs always strike me as gentle animals, and they don't screech like raucous cockatoos!
Oh please, someone make covid go away and travelnopen up again...so many new species and places on my bucket list.
They are little pink Aussie icons, Sukanya, and definitely cute. I love it when they flick their comb forward and strut about! And they always look like they're happy. Definite favourites :)
These are really distinctive-looking. Can something distinctive be cute as well. Yes, of course. See above!!!
