Description:
Dry, tan-green caps with pale yellow gills and short, stub-like stems. The caps ranged in size from 3-6 cm wide, and they were fan-shaped with incurved margins. The gills were attached and looked like they were descending the stem. There were 4 of these mushrooms growing fused together. The largest mushroom (see pic 1) resembles the mouth of a baleen whale.
Habitat:
Growing on rotting wood in a deciduous forest.
Notes:
This mushroom has been dubbed as the harbinger of the end of mushroom season as it appears in October to November (after the first frost).
