Description:

Drake - Dark green head with long black bill, black upper body with chestnut sides, white breast and rump with black tail.
Hen - Mottled brown and black upper body with lighter brown breast. Bill and legs are orange.

Habitat:

Ponds, lakes, reservoirs and associated wetlands

Notes:

Males coloration is quite striking and the bill of both male and female is distinctive in size and shape. These characteristics are distinctive field marks for this species.
